Monday, we ventured out to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem to finally see the Ai Weiwei exhibit and we were fortunate in arriving on a day when there was a guided tour so we joined.
If you are not familiar with Ai Weiwei, he is a Chinese artist and activist who uses his name and influence to criticize and call out both Chinese and other governments. One of the more colorful, both in subject and hue, exhibits was a series of about 2 dozen photos where he (presumably) stands in front of a recognizable monument in a given country and photographs his arm and extended hand ending in his upraised middle finger. Provocative, like his dropping a Han dynasty vase.
You can hear an audio tour of the exhibit online at the Israel Museum’s website.
